Akon's Konvict Music artist "Dolla" was fatally shot on Monday (May 18th) afternoon after a reported altercation that took place at a California shopping center. Dolla was shot in the head around 3:10pm while he and another rapper (DJ Shabbazz) were waiting in the Beverly Center mall area after shopping.
The L.A. police detained a "person of interest" about two hours later as he attempted to board a plane out of LAX. Dolla's publicist says he got into an altercation on a flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles but it's unclear if this was related. "The customers were yelling 'close the store, close the store, because somebody is shooting,'" said Elsa Hernandez, general manager of a local restaurant. An employee who was behind the restaurant, near the mall's valet parking service, saw the tail end of the dispute, Hernandez said. He saw a lady ... shooting a handgun, Hernandez said.
