The new Biggie Smalls biopic "Notorious" debuted with over $21.5 million in box office sales. "Notorious" took home the 4th highest sales this past weekend, behind "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" ($39 million), "Gran Torino" ($26.25 million) and "My Bloody Valentine 3-D" ($21.9 million). "Notorious" numbers are actually really high as it was only shown in 1,638 theaters while movies like "Mall Cop" were shown in over 3,100 movie spots. Biggie's debut made it the most successful opening weekend for a Fox Searchlight film since "Juno" and "Little Miss Sunshine."
It wasn't all good news for "Notorious" fans though as four men were stabbed at a New York City nightclub release party for the film over the weekend. A spokesman for Fox Searchlight Pictures said "It's an unfortunate and isolated incident, but there is no connection to the filmmakers or the studio."
