Back in September, Drake and his hometown NBA team, the Toronto Raptors, announced they have linked up for a partnership. The Raptors named Drizzy the global ambassador for the team. The YMCMB rapper spoke on how honored he was about the position during a press conference.
“There’s something genuine about this city,” Drake said at the time. “There’s something great. I think aside from that with All-Star coming here there’s an untapped nightlife, restaurants, culture. There’s so much to soak in and I think that our goal is in 2016 to truly showcase that, not only for the players, but also for everybody.”
Now the Raptors have just declared that January 11th will be “Drake Night.” The team and OVO Sound have joined forces to release a limited edition T-Shirt for the special night.
“In honor of “Drake Night,” the Toronto basketball squad has partnered with OVO Sound to release a limited edition “Drake Night” T-shirt, slated to be given to the evening’s attendees for the home team’s game against the visiting Brooklyn Nets, a basketball organization that was previously partially owned by Jay Z.” (HipHopDx)
According to Sports Illustrated, the Raptors are considering changing the whole look of the team’s brand and turning the colors to the OVO brand’s black and gold color scheme.
“You know how they are working on the “re-branding” of everything to do with the [Raptors], right? Maybe new colours, maybe a new logo, maybe all kinds of things different for the 2015-16 season. Well, how about this: Black and gold. Now, I’m not suggesting it’s a done deal and a lot of different people and companies are coming up with a lot of different looks and styles but I was told on the weekend that black and gold is definitely something being considered. … This is by no means a done deal and there is still time for them to tinker and change and do whatever they have in this grandiose [plan] to re-invent the organization.” (Toronto Star)
