We recently reported on the NBA supposedly offering to drop the $25,000 fine against the Toronto Raptors due to Drake publicly trying to recruit Kevin Durant, if they dropped Drizzy as their global ambassador. Now reports claim that the NBA’s senior vice president of basketball communications never said anything about getting Drake dropped from the team.
According to a statement from the NBA’s senior vice president of basketball communications, they never suggested they would drop the fine if the Raptors dropped Drake.
“At no point did we suggest his title be removed but we were clear that as long as he acted as a representative of the team, he is subject to the league’s rules” (AllHipHop)
Cathal Kelly of the Toronto Globe and Mail dissected the whole odd situation and noted that at one point, “the NBA offered to drop the tampering fine if the team agreed to strip Drake of his title. The Raptors apparently refused.” Obviously, Drake’s presence is worth more than $25,000, but why would the NBA draw the line here, especially since everyone is going to “tamper” with Durant over the next couple of years?
