It’s official. Eminem’s next video, from his four million plus sold album Encore, is “Mockingbird.” Never before has the world seen this side of Eminem – or his family. Using actual home movies, the video gives a first hand glimpse into his private family life. In the video, Eminem is shown watching footage of his daughter Hailie, his niece Lanie and, of course, his now famous ex-wife Kim. This video marks a new precedent for the famous rapper, for in the past, actresses played the part of Eminem’s daughter, as he tried to keep her out of the media.
The “Mockingbird” video closely follows the lyrics of the deeply personal song. In it, actual home footage provides new insight into Eminem and his lyrics. For example, the home video connects the audience to some of the most memorable lyrics in the song – “I remember back one year when daddy had no money, Mommy wrapped the Christmas presents up and stuck them under the tree, and said some of them were from me, coz daddy couldn’t buy ‘em.”
Don’t get it twisted though; Eminem stays controversial with scenes such as the “Welcome Home Mommy” portion of the video, which depicts his ex-wife getting home from jail.
Eminem will personally debut his new video on MTV’s “TRL” Monday, February 21. Look for the video to hit the internet the same day.
