Earlier today Gucci Mane took to the Twitter Airwaves to announce his name change to Guwop, but quickly recanted. It was a very quick Twitter flurry in which the veteran rapper announced that he would be changing his name to Guwop, but was convinced by fans that it would not be a good move.
Actually, this does not come as much of a surprise considering that this seems to be the trend at the current time. Last year, Snoop Dogg changed his rap moniker to Snoop Lion, while Mos Def transitioned into the name Yaslin Bey, and even N.O.R.E. got into the action, changing his name to P.A.P.I.
Gucci, however, made a quick about face on the name change, siting the overwhelming response by his fan as the reason for changing his mind so quickly. He also announced the release of Trap House 3 and Juug House on July 2nd.
July 2nd I’m officially changing my rap name to Guwop and retiring the great GucciMane Thanks Fans, for 8 years as Gucci now it’s Wop turn
I am officially NOT changing my name to Guwop it will officially stay Gucci Mane due to my Fans’ response.. Trap House 3 & Juug House July 2
It is absolutely amazing what a few lines on Twitter can do for a PR campaign. Absolutely amazing.
