A great deal of controversy has been stirred up due to the recent trip to Cuba by Jay-Z and his wife Beyonce. Due to his association with Jay-Z, President Obama found himself in the middle of the questions and accusations concerning the manner in which the couple received their license to travel to Cuba.
The US has a tourist embargo on travel to Cuba and there are politicians, especially from the state of Florida that are seeking answers as to how the couple was able to obtain a license to travel to Cuba.
This morning the President appeared on NBC’s “The Today Show”. While discussing a number of issues, the President was confronted with the ongoing situation with Jay-Z and his response to the scrutiny of his recent travels.
The President responded by saying that he had no prior knowledge of Jay-Z and Beyonce’s trip to Cuba, nor did he play any role in them procuring a license to travel there.
I wasn’t familiar that Jay-Z and Beyonce were taking the trip. My understanding is I think they went through a group that organizes these educational trips down to Cuba,” said the President.
Jay-Z even responded to the controversy by releasing a single in which he implies that the President asked him to chill or he is going to get him impeached. Many have become inquisitive as to whether there has actually been dialogue between the President and the rapper over this issue.
