Jay-Z is teaming up with New York City's mayor, Michael Bloomberg, to launch a new program called Summer Streets. In a recent press conference [watch here], we learned the program, held from 7a.m. to 1p.m. on Saturday on seven miles of Manhattan streets, is an effort to make local streets into recreation filled, car-free zones. A stage located on 24th street will offer peformances and programs, while residents will be able to ride bikes or do things like dance, take fitness classes or even salasa dancing. Mayor Bloomberg calls Summer Streets "a grand experiment that could dramatically alter the way we use and look at the streets of New York."

Jay-Z hopes the program will provide teens an chance to get involved in positive things. Bloomberg finished up by saying "Streets that are normally tied up with cars and trucks will be turned over to the public - so that we can experience this city as never before." [watch here]
