JayZ Video Causes Problems
JAY-Z’s gritty new video “99 Problems,” which features his own
fictionalized murder, caused a battle between the rapper and MTV.
The network asked director Mark Romanek, who also did Johnny Cash’s
“Hurt” clip, to edit ten scenes but he instead agreed to blur
certain images. “I feel like Madonna,” Jay-Z told Rolling Stone.
“We’re not interested in what MTV likes or doesn’t like. If you
make something good enough, MTV will want to show it.” The network
is airing the video after 6 p.m.
