The Grammy Awards had a lot of controversy and mainly within the Hip Hop community , when rapper Macklemore swept four Grammy’s and Kendrick Lamar went home with not one. Macklemore addressed the situation and even posted a text message he sent to Lamar right after the show where he expressed to Kendrick how he even thought he got robbed by the Grammy association. K.Dot has finally come forth to speak his peace on the huge controversy. XXL Magazine caught up with Kendrick at a show in New York City last night.
Lamar expressed how he had nothing but respect for Macklemore and the movement he has created over the past year.
“It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man,” Kendrick said. “He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.” (XXL)
The West Coast native went on to explain how the Grammy’s have undervalued the hip-hop community.
“I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre,” Kendrick said. “We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it’s music as a whole, it’s not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that’s how it goes. And we are a part of that.”
