During a recent interview with Vibe, Rap’s Hot Boy, Kendrick Lamar said that he had planned to have Nas feature on “Sing About Me, I’m Dying of thirst, and though the collaboration never developed he still has hope of connecting with the Hip Hop legend when the time is right. The Top Dawg Entertainment emcee also said that he believed that Nas was a genius and he had the potential to take the song to another level.
I never really got a chance to reach out to him,”Kendrick told Vibe. “I was so wrapped up in getting the music done, samples cleared and mastered – there was so much going on.”
“I just wanted to play him the record. Whatever inspiration he drew from it, I’d just have him there and he would go,” Kendrick continued. “He’s a genius. The record is self-explanatory but he may hear something a little different that might take it to the next level.
Lamar continued on to say that he still has hopes of connecting with the Queens native in the future.
When “good kid, m.A.A.d city” was released it was compared to Nas‘ first major debut album “Illmatic”. Lamar says that he refrained from making the comparison saying that his album was not yet a classic. He said that it was humbling to be mentioned in the same sentence with a legend like Nas
