Kendrick Lamar Admits Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’ Confused Him At First

West coast rapper Kendrick Lamar recently told MTV his feelings about Kanye West’s “Yeezus” and admits he didn’t get what Kanye was going for at first.

“It was hard for me to grasp it on the first take,” K-Dot told MTV News at the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware. “I got it, but as I kept listening throughout the week, I understood where he was going and that was him stepping out of the box again and doing what he felt. And as an artist, we all need to take heat into that and salute that because, at the end of the day, it’s so much we can do following radio, following the politics in the business so for somebody to come back again and do what they want, it helps out new cats like myself, Cole, Drake, whoever, so salute.” (MTV)

About a month ago, G.O.O.D Music affiliate Travis Scott told MTV that Yeezus  was definitely way ahead of its time:

“While most of us only have barely audible YouTube clips from Mohawke’s set to go off of, G.O.O.D. Music affiliate Travi$ Scott heard ‘Ye’s new tunes during a recent trip to Paris and suggests that we may not be ready for what’s coming. “That sh– is like some next-level 3000,” he told MTV News, suggesting that West is ahead of his time with his new music. “We’re already in the year 3000 f—ing with that sh– and that’s why I love hanging out with those guys over there. You get caught on to that new sh– extra fast.” (MTV)
