Lupe Doesn't Need A Hit Record To Be Relevant

Grammy-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco says he doesn't need a lead single to have a relevant album. During his new feature in the new issue of XXL magazine, Lupe says he has a very loyal fan base at this point.
"They still can't understand me. They still don't get it. They still don't understand that, even without a hit record, Lupe Fiasco will be just as relevant and just as successful as the dude with the hit record. They just don't get that." (XXL Mag)
In related news, Matt Diamond (CEO of Indepenent Label Coalmine Records) spoke about the problems artists have when they are signed and working with Major labels.
"On the flip side, you have labels like Atlantic Records which will have a talent like a Lupe Fiasco, a talent like Cee-Lo or Wiz Khalifa and there's a certain mold. They already have a template on what that album's 'supposed' to be. They have 'this beat' with 'that sound' and then insert the artist so now they have the mold for how it should sound. That actually dilutes the direction the artist would go if they didn't have that or have to answer to that label." (SOHH Guest Star)
