New York, NY–September 2, 2004- Mase is officially back. The Fo’ Reel/Bad Boy recording artist’s latest release, Welcome Back entered the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at #4. His third effort has sold nearly 200,000 copies. This is the first CD that the 7X-platinum rapper has released in five years.
“To come in at #4 is an incredible accomplishment in this music climate,” said Harve Pierre, Executive Vice-President of Bad Boy Entertainment. “He [Mase] has a great album. His music is clean and can be enjoyed by both adults and children. We are glad to have him back!”
People magazine, which gave Welcome Back 3-stars agrees, “…the emcee makes a most welcome return on his third outing, which finds him delivering the same hook-heavy pop-rap that won him hip-hop glory.” The long awaited return of the Bad Boy prince’s latest release feature 12 tracks that prove even after a five-year hiatus from music, Mase hasn’t missed a step or skipped a beat.
The energetic lead single, “Breathe, Stretch, Shake” is currently gaining airplay in major markets such as New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. The song is currently a top 20 hit at Top 40 and a top 10 hit at the crossover radio formats. The music video, directed by Benny Boom was recently added to FUSE’s Oven Fresh and is currently in rotation at MTV, MTV2 and BET.
Mase made his debut in 1996 on the R&B group 112’s gold single, “Only You (Remix).” He released his certified 4X platinum debut, Harlem World (1997) which spawned hits “Feel So Good ” (Platinum), “What You Want ” featuring Total (Gold), and “Lookin’ At Me” (Gold). Mase collaborated with various artists including, P. Diddy, Mariah Carey, Brandy, Brian McKnight and was featured on the late Notorious B.I.G.’s platinum hit, “Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems.” In 1999, shortly after releasing his sophomore effort, Double Up (Gold), Mase shocked the world when he announced that he was retiring from music to pursue his faith and education.
