Prodigy pleads guilty to gun charges; faces 3 1/2 years
Rapper Prodigy of Queens, New York based group Mobb Deep, pleaded guilty to gun charges yesterday (October 9).
Prodigy,
born Albert Johnson Jr., pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a
loaded gun in Manhattan Supreme Court and will spend the next 3-1/2
years in prison.
The rapper went on trial yesterday for the
gun possession charges, after police stopped his bulletproof SUV last
October for driving the wrong way down a Manhattan street, in an
attempt to secure a parking spot.
Police found a .22-caliber gun in the armrest of the SUV.
Both Prodigy and producer The Alchemist were charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
Charges
against The Alchemist were later dismissed, but yesterday, Prodigy, 32,
admitted to possessing the unlicensed .22-caliber gun.
