MTV launched by showing real footage of a space shuttle preparing for liftoff followed by an animated astronaut planting an MTV flag on the moon… You then hear a man’s voice say, “Ladies and Gentlemen…rock 'n' roll.” The MTV logo flashes in different patterns, which would become a trademark of the cable channel along with the catchy guitar riff.
