Veteran Queens Rapper, Nas, has now entered the digital publishing business. He has purchased an interest in Mass Appeal the magazine that was the first to picture him and Large Professor on the cover.
It was eleven years ago that Nas and fellow Queens native, Large Professor was both pictured on the same cover of Mass Appeal’s eighteenth issue. Now Nas is part owner of the magazine. Forbes.com was the first to report the venture, but did not disclose the amount of the transaction. It is believe to be a six figure investment for the rapper.
“I always liked what Mass Appeal represented,” Nas told the Forbes. “They invested into the culture … I saw their vision for what they planned and I thought I could add value across the board.”
The report also reveals that Nas has company as far as new investors in the veteran magazine. The report reveals that White Owl Capital Partners, a newly formed investment group that has international holdings, has also invested in the magazine.
Nas’ interest in the magazine spurred questions about his onetime collaborator, Ray Benzino who after purchasing interest in The Source Magazine received praised releases that many felt were undue, but tied to his ownership in the magazine. Nas responded to the concerns rather succinctly.
“I don’t want to see it until it’s out. I won’t get involved with that at all … I won’t touch anything, they’re free to say whatever they want. They can say I’m a psychopath, they can say I’m a sweetheart.”
