3 Billion Dollar Lawsuit Dismissed Against Dr Dre

A Detroit judge has dismissed a $3 billion lawsuit filed against Dr. Dre and other parties over footage that appeared on the Up In Smoke Tour DVD that was released in 2000. The suit was filed in 2002 by Greg Bowens, a spokesman to former Mayor Dennis Archer, former police spokeswoman Paula Bridges and former police Cmdr. Gary Brown over a conversation the three had backstage at a July 2000 concert at the Joe Louis Arena. The footage shows the three city officials asking concert producers not to show an explicit video during the show. I

n their suit, Bowens, Bridges and Brown claimed that the conversation was private. On December 4, Wayne County Circuit Judge John A. Murphy tossed the lawsuit, saying that because the conversation happened in a room with an open door, the plaintiffs could not have had a reasonable expectation of privacy. According to the Detroit Free Press, Judge Murphy’s decision came as a surprise, since in October, he remarked that he was inclined to let the suit go to trial. Glenn Oliver, the attorney representing the three former officials, said he would appeal the ruling.
