A New Zealand mayoral candidate is reportedly calling for the cancellation of an upcoming Ice Cube concert. According to The New Zealand Herald, aspiring mayor Len Brown claims that Cube's music advocates the gangster lifestyle and will be replicated by youth in his community which is already suffering from problems with youth gangs and violence.

"We don't need a gangsta rapper working against the future interests of our young," Brown said via a statement. "It's time to freeze out the Ice Cube. We don't want him. We don't need him. He is not welcome here."

How long is this going to go on, seriously? You have movies where 200 people die, that all kids see, you have video games where the kids learn how to rip people apart literally, yet a “gangsta” rapper will corrupt our children? Ice Cube has been in more FAMILY COMEDY movies lately than he’s been in anything. GIVE ME A BREAK.

"We don't need a gangsta rapper working against the future interests of our young," Brown said via a statement. "It's time to freeze out the Ice Cube. We don't want him. We don't need him. He is not welcome here."

Brown is also pressuring the owners of the venue where the Los Angles bred rapper is expected to perform.

"It's also time for Telstra-Pacific to step up and show leadership. They need to cancel this concert," he added. "That would show commitment to the community they serve."

The concert's promoter, Camilla Anderson, disputes Brown's claims that the event will promote violence in the community and suspects his criticism is an election tactic.

She defended Cube saying that he often sings about the plight of the poor and revealed that the rapper is a Muslim who is all about family.

The concert is scheduled to take place in Auckland on August 22.
