Blinged out rapper Lil' Wayne may be headed to court over a delinquent jewelry bill.
According to the Miami Herald, New Orleans-based Jack Sutton Fine Jewelry has filed a lawsuit against Weezy, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., in Miami-Dade Circuit Court.
The complaint alleges that Carter currently owes $146,000 on a $170,000 jewelry purchase.
Jack Sutton, the third generation store owner who sold Carter the jewelry, says Wayne agreed to buy the $138,000 diamond ring and $32,000 gold and diamond necklace after he described the pieces by phone.
According to Sutton's suit, Carter agreed to pay for the jewels by monthly installment, but after receiving a $24,000 check on Oct. 12, the next $24,000 check was dated January 18. After Sutton deposited the second check he learned a stop payment had been issued.
"I've been doing business with him for at least 10 years," Sutton told the Herald of his longtime relationship with the rapper. "He's always been wonderful with paying me."
Sutton said the platinum ring is handmade and contains a 11.55 carat princess-cut diamond, which is surrounded by another five carats worth of invisible set princess diamonds. The necklace, 32 inches in length contains four rows of diamonds that total 105 carats set in 18 karat white gold.
Sutton claims he made attempts to reach Carter by sending e-mails to the rapper's financial advisor, but was unsuccessful in resolving the matter.
Despite filing the lawsuit, Sutton calls Weezy "one of my best customers," adding, "He spent a lot of money with me. I thought we have a really good relationship. I don't know what happened, unless it's a misunderstanding."
Carter has not responded publicly to the suit, but his California-based entertainment attorney Ron Sweeney confirmed that Carter has been doing business for years with Sutton without any issues.
"This is clearly a misunderstanding," Sweeney told the Herald. "If, in fact, the allegations are true, then it will be resolved. My client is very responsible."
Miami Circuit Judge Scott Silverman is handling the case. Sutton is represented by Miami attorney Richard Wolfe.
Despite the dispute, Carter doesn't appear to be having any cash flow problems. In August Weezy purchased a four bedroom luxury condominium for $3.1 million in SouthBeach, on the 26th floor of the Murano Grande.
The jewelry case is just the latest in a series of legal trials for Wayne, who is fighting drug charges in Atlanta, gun possession in New York and two civil suits in Baltimore after several women suffered injuries as a result of a melee at a homecoming concert at Morgan State where Carter threw money into the crowd.
