Wayne Could Face More Charges

Thursday, 26 October 2006 |   Written by Jason   PDF Print E-mail Post a Comment

Police at Morgan State University in Baltimore are considering whether to file criminal charges against Lil Wayne after someone threw money into the crowd during his show on Thursday at the university's Hill Field House, causing a rush that left three women injured, according to The Baltimore Sun.

"We're evaluating it from a public safety standpoint and a criminal standpoint," said university police Chief Adrian Wiggins. Injured in the crush were two 20-year-old women, who both suffered leg injuries, as well as a third woman who refused medical treatment and a fourth who fainted.

Most of the cash tossed into the crowd was $1 bills, but some $5, $10 and $20 bills were also mixed into the bundles, according to Morgan State spokesperson Clinton Coleman, who said Wayne could not be invited back to perform on the campus. Wayne played to a sold-out crowd at the 4,000-capacity venue, on a bill that also featured Busta Rhymes.

"It was as dangerous a thing to do as standing in a crowded movie theater and shouting 'fire'," Coleman told the Sun. "It is something we regret that he did. We regret the injuries that were caused. And we're happy that most of the people in the crowd acted responsibly." A spokesperson for Lil Wayne could not be reached for comment.

Wiggins said the incident occurred during a show that was part of the homecoming weekend festivities and it was unclear if Wayne (born Dwayne Michael Carter) or a member of his entourage threw the bills out into the crowd.

In May, a member of T.I.'s entourage — his best friend and assistant, Philant Johnson — was killed in a highway shooting in Cincinnati following an afterparty show in which money was tossed from the stage, an act that reportedly insulted some members of the audience and which witnesses said may have played a part in the violence
