Nas' Father To Be Honored And Perform At "Harlem Is Music" Event

Nas isn't the only talent in his family. His father Olu Dara, is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and lyricist. Nas's father will be giving an exclusive performance at an invitation-only gala introducing a new exhibition titled "Harlem is Music", a series at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. Olu Dara will also be honored along with the late Max Roach, a master jazz percussionist. The Natchaezsippe Dance Band, Olu Dara's band, along will perform along with The Jitterbug Kids, The Cotton Club Dancers and 2008's Best Song Oscar nominee, Impact Repertory Theatre.
The  night will celebrate the legacy of Harlem nightclubs like The Cotton Club, Lenox Lounge, Minton's Playhouse, St. Nick's Pub and even Showman's. The event is sponsored by Community Works and engages teens from 10 partner public schools in Harlem who conduct research and documentation on the project. The event starts at 6:00 PM at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at 515 Malcolm X Boulevard at 135th Street.
