Update: Diddy Won't Be Turning Himself In To Police, Lawyer Says

Tuesday, 16 October 2007 |   Written by Jason   PDF Print E-mail Post a Comment
Contrary to media reports, Sean "Diddy" Combs will not be turning himself in to police on Tuesday (October 16) to address his involvement in an altercation that occurred in a New York nightclub over the weekend, his lawyer said in a statement released Tuesday morning.

"What is being reported in the media is inaccurate," the statement reads. "Mr. Combs is not going to be arrested today. We are hopeful that this matter will be resolved without the filing of any criminal charges, as this was a disagreement among acquaintances, not a criminal assault."

According to Combs' publicist, Keesha Johnson, Diddy and the other man involved in the altercation, Steven Acevedo, have known each other for more than 13 years. She emphasized that the weekend's incident had nothing to do with a woman, as has been widely speculated. She declined to discuss the matter further.

On Monday, a representative for the New York Police Department confirmed to MTV News that an incident took place early Saturday morning inside Kiosk, a store located in New York's Soho neighborhood that hosts parties by night, and that the matter was being investigated by detectives. Police would not confirm that the incident was an alleged assault that may have involved Combs.

An eyewitness to the incident spoke with MTV News on Monday and described what they saw. According to the witness, the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m., soon after Combs arrived with his entourage at Kiosk. Before entering the club, the witness claims Combs spoke briefly with Acevedo, a discussion that was characterized as "intense." Soon afterward, both men entered the club's main room, where they were whisked away to separate tables.

Minutes later, the witness claims Combs "aggressively marched" over to Acevedo's table and confronted him. The two men exchanged heated words, and the witness said Combs struck Acevedo with two consecutive, rapid punches. Members from both entourages immediately intervened and separated the two. Both Acevedo and Combs exited the club soon after without further incident.
