The Black Eyed Peas took home three awards last night (Nov. 21) at the 2006 American Music Awards, held at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium and broadcast live on ABC. The Peas, which accepted the awards via satellite from Costa Rica, were named favorite group in the soul/R&B and rap/hip-hop categories, and picked up honors for favorite album ("Monkey Business") in the rap/hip-hop genre.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rascal Flatts, Mary J. Blige and Kelly Clarkson were double-winners at 34th annual ceremony, which was hosted by late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

The Chili Peppers won favorite pop/rock band and favorite alternative music artist; Rascal Flatts took home trophies for favorite country band and the T-Mobile Text-In Award (voted on by the public during the show's broadcast); Blige nabbed honors for favorite female soul/rhythm & blues artist and favorite soul/rhythm & blues album ("The Breakthrough"); and Clarkson won favorite female pop/rock artist and favorite adult contemporary artist.

Other winners included dancehall reggae act Sean Paul (favorite male pop/rock artist), Toby Keith and Faith Hill (favorite male and female country artists), Jamie Foxx (favorite male soul/R&B artist), Eminem (favorite male rap/hip-hop artist), Shakira (favorite Latin artist), Kirk Franklin (favorite contemporary inspirational artist), and Carrie Underwood (favorite new breakthrough artist for all genres).
