Grandmaster Flash Honored with Founders Award

In taking a moment to honor some of hip-hop and R&B’s finest Billboard will be handing out the Founders Award to legend Grandmaster Flash and Betty Wright. The recognition of their careers will be honored at the 2003 Billboard-AURN R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.

The founder’s award pays tribute to artists for their influence and achievements in music. Grandmaster Flash has been a pioneer of hip-hop beginning his career in the 1970’s as a DJs and enjoyed big success with the group Furious Five and their debut album “ The Message” in 1982. Betty Wright began her career in the 1960’s and is still going strong today. Some of her hit songs are “Clean Up Woman”, “Tonight Is the Night” and “Where is the Love”. Still hard at work on the music scene, Betty Wright recently made an appearance on P.Diddy’s show “Making the Band 2”.The awards show will be at the Roney Palace in Miami Beach, Florida on August 8th.
