Microsoft recently released the results of a survey it did with children that showed they are less likely to illegally download music and other content if they know the laws regarding doing so. Microsoft found that 49% of kids in the seventh through 10th grade aren't familiar with the copyright lawys and only 11% say they have a good understanding of copyright. Eighty percent of the kids who said they knew about the copyright laws said villators should be punished. Overall 48% of the teenagers surveyed thought that people who break the download laws should be punished.

Microsoft is planning to launch a website, mybytes.com, that will allow kids to mix music to create custom ringtones, share content and learn about the copyright laws.
