The label which is home to such artists as Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz, Pitbull, Ying Yang Twins and Nine Inch Nails, has fired the majority of it's employees and filed bankruptcy today. It's not known how this will affect the label's releases such as Lil' Jon's highly anticipated album, Crunk Rock. Pitbul recently lashed out at TVT and urged fans to stop buying his album saying "I'm out here working like a slave, doing things that other artists
don't even know how to do," Pitbull said. "A label's there to further
and promote your career, but it feels like they just keep holding me
back."
TVT was started by Steve Gottlieb, the current president, out of his apartment in New York City in 1985. At it's height it was the top independent label in the United States, earning Billboard's Independent Record Label of the year award 5 consecutive times in the row, with 2006 being the most recent. TVT did win a $132 million dollar law suit against Cash Money Click, which featured Ja Rule, but the judgement was later voided on appeal.
