Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were the newest judges to join the American Idol panel. It didn’t take long before the two women started clashing. The new judges couldn’t even make it through the first taping of American Idol without clashing. It started as Minaj was critiquing a contestant, she would reportedly be interrupted by Carey.
Carey and Minaj decided to call a truce after feuding with each other on the first taping of American Idol. Carey had pulled Minaj aside and convinced her that feuding would not be good for the show, and they both needed to stop the antics they pulled during the first auditions. Carey acknowledged that she and the others were ticked off when Minaj arrived 45 minutes late. The truce did not last long. Later, at another taping, Minaj exploded on Carey over a disagreement over a contestant’s performance. According to TMZ, Minaj’s explosion went beyond just name calling. She threatened Carey’s life, saying “If I had a gun, I would shoot her.”
Now, months later Mariah Carey sat down and had an interview with Barbara Walters. According to mtv.com, Carey stated she was not expecting there to be another female panelist behind the “Idol” judging table. She also stated to Walters that she felt physically unsafe after the verbal altercation. “It felt like an unsafe work environment”, Carey stated. Carey also admitted to Walters that she did hire more security because she didn’t want to take any chances.
