Diddy Combs took top honors at the 2004 Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards being named mens wear designer of the year for his Sean John collection. Sean Combs has the distinct privilege of being the first African-American to win this prestigious award, which is voted on by the fashion industrys elite.
This is the first win for Sean P. Diddy Combs for Sean John after four consecutive nominations. The award comes at a time when there is a great deal of anticipation for the Sean John womens collection, which is slated to launch in 2005. In addition to P. Diddys recognition, his business associate and friend Zac Posen also took home the Perry Ellis award for new ready-to-wear talent.
Said Sean P. Diddy Combs, Im overwhelmed and humbled by the recognition the CFDA has given me. This award is especially meaningful because I am the first African-American ever to win it. This sends a signal to kids all over America…they too can be a successful fashion designer regardless of their race.
