Tuesday, 10 December 2002
If you havent heard of Haystak yet, you'll probably be seeing a whole lot of him soon.  Def Jam South recently bought out his contract from Koch Entertainment / In The Paint and Haystak's manager Sonny Paradise has signed him over to the label that made Ludacris a household name.  Haystak is probably the most well-known artist from Nashville, TN.  Haystak has been on the grind now for about 5 years.   He released his debut album "Mak Million" in 1998, followed by "Car Fulla White Boys" in 2000.  In 2002 he dropped "The Natural" and "Return Of The Mak Million" was scheduled for release in late 2002, but was evidentally delayed or cancelled due to this deal.

Def Jam South had been looking to sign a white rapper for quite some time now, meeting with various rappers from different parts of the south.  Face decided it was Haystak that had what he wanted.

Now the journey begins, with widespread attention he will be getting from the media, many eyes and ears will waiting to see what he can deliver.

Proof Goes Searching For Jerry Garcia

PROOF OF D12 GOES SEARCHING FOR JERRY GARCIA

Eminem is not the only Detroit celeb making his acting debut in the semi-autobiographic film, 8 Mile. Eminem's rhyme partner, PROOF, the only member of hip-hop group D12 to appear in the film plays Lil' Tic. If you've seen the film, Lil’ Tic is the rapper who makes Rabbit (Eminem’s character), choke in the MC battle. While Proof plays MC extraordinaire, Mekhi Phifer portrays Proof's real life persona in the film, which took in $54.5 million in its first week making it the second best opening ever for an R-Rated film.

Fresh off the success of the 8 Mile film and soundtrack, PROOF has just completed a 6-song vinyl EP, Electric Coolaid - Acid Testing due out December 17, 2002. The EP which features MC Breed on the lead single, "One - Two" and Journalist and Mu on "Broken" will build momentum for his solo debut album titled, Searching 4 Jerry Garcia which features Eminem, D12 and Shady Record’s new artist, Obie Trice.

Proof aka Big Proof aka Derty Harry, an amazing freestyler and winner of Source Magazine's 1999 Freestyling Competition is one of Detroit's wildest wordsmith. Word got around about the new kid on the block and it was a matter of time before Proof, Detroit’s most notorious MC and host of the emcee battles at Maurice Malones’ Hip Hop Shop would meet the rapper who later become known to the world as Slim Shady. New to the local hip-hop scene, Proof pushed Eminem into the battles, creating the street buzz needed for Eminem to secure a record deal with Aftermath/Interscope Records. But Eminem would not travel the mile alone, the relationship developed at The Hip Hop Shop between Proof, Eminem, Kon Artis, Bizarre, Kuniva, and Swift laid the foundation for what became D12. Their multi-platinum album, Devil's Night, which spawned the controversial single "Purple Pills," was released on Eminem's Shady Records/Interscope imprint last year.

Searching 4 Jerry Garcia is scheduled to hit stores on February 18, 2003. It will be released through Proof's label, I.F. Records distributed by AMC - American Music Corp. The first 250,000 people to purchase the album, Searching 4 Jerry Garcia, will receive Electric Coolaid – Acid Testing as a bonus CD. The 6 track EP, Electric Coolaid - Acid Testing will be available only on vinyl and features six songs two sides: Side L – “Broken” featuring Journalist & Mu, “Derty Promo,” “One, Two” featuring MC Breed; Side SD - “Derty Harry,” and “X-Fam” featuring Marv 1, J –Hill, and Bareda, and “Places I’ve Been” featuring J-Hill.

A Hip-Hop Legend is told to leave the Country?

Wednesday, 04 December 2002

The INS(Immagration and Naturalization Services) has issued a ruling to deport Slick Rick back to his birth place of England. Rick's lawyers filed a motion to stay the deportation, but the judge has not issued a ruling as of yet. Which basically means he can be sent back home at anytime.

The Hip Hop Summit Action Network and John Conyers, have issued a plea to stop the INS deportation and at least grant Slick Rick a bond while the case is sitll being heard.

Tupac better than Shakespeare...Nas Seems to think so

Wednesday, 04 December 2002

While on the set of the new Tupac video Thugz Mansion,Nas willing revealed to MTV that when he got the call to appear on Tupac's new Cd Better Dayz, he literally jumped at the chance, "That was something I've been waiting to do for a long time. It's a tremendous honor because I put Tupac beyond Shakespeare. Unfortunately his early demise didn't allow him to still be here and do more incredible things. The things he left are timeless. Just to be a part of that is an honor for me."

On the album Nas has one verse of the Acoustic version of Thugz Mansion. On the other hand, on Nas's upcomming cd God's Son,whic is due out December 17, Nas has two verses, while 2Pac only has one. Nas went on to say : "As soon as I heard it, I was with it, It was something I wanted to do with just a guitar playing, not really drums — something you could hear the words [on]. I was looking forward to doing something like that for my album, so when I heard [Tupac] doing it and the things he was saying, I was like, 'Damn!' It goes to show how he was one of the most incredible poets. It couldn't have been a better song at a better time. The concept of the song is somewhere to go where there's no problems. Everywhere we go, there's a problem. Everywhere I turn I'm hearing my name this way and that way. It's always an issue on all types of levels. Just being a human is hard. 'Thugz Mansion' is like exactly what the title says — it's heaven."

Jadakiss working on LOXs new project and One of his own

Wednesday, 04 December 2002

As one third of the infamous rap group The Lox. Jadakiss, (many of you might know him from the hit single with female talent J-Lo(Jenifer Lopez),"Jenny from the Block"),just incase you were wondering, as well as Styles P and Sheek, have been working ferociously, on the still Untitled, third LOX project. The album will of course, feature production from some of  the in-house Double R team, including Swizz Beatz, and will be released next year.

So what happens once the Yonkers native returns to New York? It's back into the studio to work on a follow-up to his 2001 solo album, Kiss Tha Game Goodbye. Which featured the hit singles "Knock Ya Self Out" and "Put Ya Hands Up".

Could it be really over for the Jigga Man?

Wednesday, 04 December 2002

Ya boy Peter here back wit some Jay-Z news so peep it out Ya'll......

After experimenting with "The Blueprint 2,"the Jigga man says he's got one more album in him and then it will be time to move on. "My next album will be 'The Black Album,' " he says, "and then that's it. I want to make it a prequel to 'Reasonable Doubt,' leading up to me having an idea for a song. I'll be saying, 'I'm going to use that Four Tops song, "Ain't No Woman" [a reference to his breakthrough single "Ain't No Nigga"],' and that's how the album's going to end. I'm going to loop the whole thing back together, make it a nice package, and that's it -- it truly, truly is. I just feel like it's time to move on and do something else."

He sees his future not in his Rocawear clothing line or Rocafella film's -- he leaves those divisions to his longtime partner Damon Dash -- but in getting more involved in Roc-a-Fella Records. The label has enjoyed moderate success with acts like Beanie Sigel and Memphis Bleek a.k.a Lil Hollywood, and Killa Cam's single "Hey Ma" went Top 10 this fall, but Jay thinks that with his experience, he has more to offer on the executive side of the rap game.

"I really enjoy new artists," he says. "I like watching someone grow, watching when they first get on Letterman, hearing them say, 'I'm never going to get a chain, I ain't into it like that,' and then next time you see them, they have eight chains. It's almost like having a kid. I don't have any kids, but I can imagine that's what it's like."
