Kardinall Offishall Says Akon Had His Record Cleared
Tuesday, 29 April 2008
As we previously reported, Akon has had his criminal past questioned. The Smoking Gun released Akon's rap sheet which showed the singers claim to have spent years in prison to be false. Kardinal Offishall, who recently signed to Akon's Konvict Music, spoke about this dispute. Kardinal says Akon's criminal record doesn't reflect his trouble past because Akon spent a lot of money to have his record cleared. "When I first met Kon, I didn't know he wasn't allowed into Canada because of the criminal record that he had," Kardinal admitted. "Now he's able to travel to Canada, Australia, to all types of different places, because he spends a lot of money to have his record expunged."

"What that means is that there's no way Akon could travel unless he was able to deal with his record and get a lot of that removed," he continued, "he wouldn't be able to be such a big international artist if he didn't get it removed." Kardinal says the media always dwells on the negative stating, "It doesn't matter who you are, whether you're a rapper, singer or actress it really seems that everything is just designed to try and pull people down," Kardinal explained. "The thing that I like about Akon is that it seems as if he's bulletproof because no matter what is thrown at him, he's able to deal with it."

Offishall is set to release his 4th album Not 4 Sale this July, leading with his first single "Dangerous" featuring Akon. The album also has appearances from labelmate T-Pain, J-Davey as well as popular Birt rapper-turned-singer, Estelle.

LLoyd Banks Says He Will Never Leave G-Unit
Monday, 28 April 2008
Lloyd Banks recently told MTV that he will never leave 50 Cent and Tony Yayo. "I'mma ride the wave when [the fans] are yelling, 'G-Unit,' and I'mma ride the wave when they saying, 'G-Unot,' " he said. "That's it. It's like being a hard-core Knick fan. I'mma be a Knick fan, and they lose every year. But I'm not gonna be the one to just come at the [championship] parade and be like, 'Yeah!' I wouldn't feel right in here. When they doing my 'E! True Hollywood Story,' its not gonna [say that] I changed."

Banks went on to talk about the Young Buck situation saying "If you don't like [50], I don't like you: plain and simple. I don't understand why it's so hard for people to get that," Banks said. "I don't hate Buck or nothing like that. He just made decisions that were premature. A lot of them were affecting 50. And at the end of the day, it affects us too, because I hear people say things like, 'Banks is next [to leave].' It's frustrating, because it takes away from everything I put into the brand. This [G-Unit logo] is my first tattoo. Co-founder! We play just as important a part as 50 does."

Papoose To Be Sued Over Use Of Ambulance In Video
Monday, 28 April 2008
Papoose will be facing legal action for his "Abulance" video. It was determined that he tricked a Brooklyn ambulance crew into appearing in the video. Jodan Tower directed the video which is believed to be aimed at fellow Brooklyn rapper Uncle Murda. Two EMT's are shown tryin gto save the life of an injured man in the back of a Bed-Stuy Volunteer Ambulance Corporation vehicle.

The New York Daily News is reporting that Rocky Robinson, the founder of the Corporation, says that Papoose misrepresented the nature of the video. “His people told us the video would be about the neighborhood and how we respond to save lives,” Robinson said. “We don’t want to be a part of something where somebody gets hurt.” He went on to say that he plans to file a suit against Papoose despite that he believes Papoose “probably hasn’t got much, but we’ll sue anyway. Our image is everything to us.”

The Roots Conflict With L.A. Reid, Rising Down Hits Stores Tomorrow
Monday, 28 April 2008
The Roots aren't happy at their new label, Def Jam. Roots drummer Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson talked to Billboard recently about the disconnection between them and Island Def Jam chairman L.A. Reid. "He has no idea that 'Birthday Girl' isn't even on the album," Thompson said, continuing "They don't know we shot the 'Rising Down' video. They just know they approved an (electronic press kit) budget." Originally slated to be a radio-friendly single,  "Birthday Girl," which features Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, recieved praise at  Def Jam, but after the fans didn't like it much, The Roots opted to leave it off the U.S. version of their upcoming album Rising Down.

The Roots have never gone platinum in over 10 years of reording, the highest selling album being Things Fall Apart, which moved 906,000 units. L.A. Reid has not commented on The Roots situation "If someone asked me, 'Do you want to release two albums and sell over 2 million copies, or do you want a 20-year career but none of your records will sell over 500,000 units?,' that's a tough question. But, looking back, I wouldn't change a thing." Rising Down hits stores tomorrow.

Jay-Z Helps LeBron Take On Stevenson
Monday, 28 April 2008
It all started when Deshawn Stevenson of the Washington Wizards recently called LeBron James "overrated." LeBron replied by telling the media that if he replied to Stevenson, it would be like "Jay-Z responding to Soulja Boy." The two NBA players went back and forth during the first three games of their playoff series. LeBron James and the Clevland Cavaleirs defeated Stevenson and the Wizards in games 1 and 2. Stevenson invited Soulja Boy to game 3, and took the game for his Wizards. Now heading into game 4, LeBron brought in reinforcements.

The Washington Post is reporting that Jay-Z recorded a track for James and he debuted it at a party for his teamates at club Love Friday night. Stevenson heard about the party and Jay-Z's track and said “When I had Soulja Boy here, it was on the court. It was nothing disrespecting him or his family or even foul language,” he told the newspaper. “So I’m boycotting Love. Everybody on our team, we’re boycotting Love…. We’re not going no more. But I appreciate Jay-Z for giving me the shout out.”
