Childish Gambino Explains How Drake Took The ‘Trophies’ Beat From Him

Posted By on February 13, 2014

Zane Lowe has had some really good interviews with some great artist recently and his latest is with Childish Gambino. Just like the interviews with Jay Z, Eminem, and Kanye West, Childish speaks on some very interesting stories during his interview. One part of the segment that stood out was when he explained how Drake’s “Trophies” beat was originally suppose to be for his “3005” track.

According to Gambino, Hit-Boy showed him the beat before Drake, and had written some ideas to for the beat before Hit-Boy decided to give it to Drizzy.

“Hit-Boy, he heard me sing that hook,” said Glover of the memorable chorus to “3005”. “That hook was actually supposed to be on Drake’s “Trophies” beat. I was like, ‘I don’t know if it feels right’ and then [Hit-Boy] gave it to Drake and Drake made it awesome.” (HNHH)
