John Legend weighs in on the issue of Kanye West no longer making beats, saying that Kanye is still a producer in the classic sense of the word.
After the recent departure of Kid Cudi from G.O.O.D Music, many have begun to speculate about an exodus of some of the other signees from the Label that is headed by Kanye West.
During a recent interview with Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club”, the platinum recording artist confirmed that not only was he still signed to West’s label, but that he had been working directly with west on his later project “Love In The Future”.
“Yeah, still signed to G.O.O.D. Music. Me and Kanye worked on this whole album,” Legend revealed. “So, the next album Love In The Future is coming out this summer. We got the single out now, ‘Who Do We Think We Are.’”
The singer went on to say that Kanye’s diminishing interest in creating beats does not mean that he is no longer a producer. He said that west is more like a producer in a classic sense, using Quincy Jones as a reference point.
“What I’m saying is we think of production as making beats, but production is the vision. And Kanye is a producer in a classic sense. That’s how Quincy Jones was. He’s a producer in a classic sense,” Legend explained.
