American Music Awards Rap-Up
The Chili Peppers won favorite pop/rock band and favorite alternative music artist; Rascal Flatts took home trophies for favorite country band and the T-Mobile Text-In Award (voted on by the public during the show's broadcast); Blige nabbed honors for favorite female soul/rhythm & blues artist and favorite soul/rhythm & blues album ("The Breakthrough"); and Clarkson won favorite female pop/rock artist and favorite adult contemporary artist.
Other winners included dancehall reggae act Sean Paul (favorite male pop/rock artist), Toby Keith and Faith Hill (favorite male and female country artists), Jamie Foxx (favorite male soul/R&B artist), Eminem (favorite male rap/hip-hop artist), Shakira (favorite Latin artist), Kirk Franklin (favorite contemporary inspirational artist), and Carrie Underwood (favorite new breakthrough artist for all genres).
This year's three-hour ceremony boasted live performances from Beyonce, Lionel Richie, Jay-Z, Fall Out Boy, Gwen Stefani, Barry Manilow, Foxx, Pussycat Dolls, Josh Groban, Snow Patrol, Dixie Chicks, John Mayer, Underwood, Blige, Nelly Furtado, Rascal Flatts, Tenacious D, and a duet from Snoop Dogg and Akon.
