New York-based radio personality Star of the “Star & Buc Wild Morning Show” was arrested today (May 12), on charges of harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.
As SOHH previously reported, Star (born Troi Torain) was fired from Power 105.1 on Wednesday (May 10) after threatening to find and sexually assault the four-year-old daughter of DJ Envy, who is on air personality on Power 105.1’s rival, Hot 97.
Star’s threats, which included the hurling of racial slurs towards DJ Envy’s wife, who is of Asian descent, launched a probe by The New York Police Department’s Hate Crime Task Force who reviewed a transcript of Star’s on-air comments.
On the transcript obtained by authorities, Star referred to Envy’s wife as a “slant-eyed whore.” He also called Envy’s child a “little half-a-lo-mein eater” and said he wanted to “do an R. Kelly on your seed, on your little baby girl. I would like to tinkle on her.”
Star, 42, was taken into custody and transported to a police precinct in Lower Manhattan. He was ordered to surrender a .9mm handgun and target practice permit at police headquarters.
“This is a real consequence for Torain and sends a real message to other would-be racist pedophile radio stooges that they are not immune from the law,” said New York City Council Member, John C. Liu via a statement.
Star issued an apology yesterday (May 11) via his attorney Benjamin Brafman. Brafman called Star’s remarks “unsuitable and inappropriate” and assured the Envy’s wife had nothing to fear. Brafman also claimed his client was reacting to threats made by DJ Envy.
The “Star and Buc Wild Show” originally launched in Hot 97 in 2000, but left the station in 2003. The duo returned to New York in January of 2005 to work for Power 105.1. They celebrated their one year anniversary in January of this year.
