As predicted, Lil Wayne debuted at the number one spot selling just over a million copies of his new album Tha Carter III, making it a platinum album in it's first week. Coming in at number 2 was fellow rapper Plies who sold 214,500 copies of his Definition of Real album. N.E.R.D.'s Seeing Sounds came in at number 7 selling just over 80,000 units.

Usher moved another 100,800 copies of his album, Here I Stand. Other rappers broke into the chart via an album called Total Club Hits, that features Missy Elliot, Shawty Lo, T.I. and Rihanna. Tyga, the rapper often doing features with Lil Wayne, came in at number 112 selling 6,800 copies of his No Introduction album and the Bay Area's Keak Da Sneak sold 3,800 copies of his Defined album to come in at number 196.
