The pilot show “All My Baby Mamas”, a reality show centered on the rapper Shawty Lo, and his eleven children along with their ten different mothers, has been officially canceled. The Oxygen Network, who was supposed to carry the reality show, released the following statement on Tuesday, January 15, 2013:
“As part of our development process, we have reviewed casting and decided not to move forward with the special. We will continue to develop compelling content that resonates with our young female viewers and drives the cultural conversation.”
The cancelation of the show comes in the midst of a great deal of controversy that was ignited when the pilot found its way onto the internet and became viral. There were online petitions being signed, and The Parents Television Council threatened to boycott the network. It seems that opposition to the show is founded in the disagreement with Lo’s unconventional Family Structure. This is what Shawty Lo had to say about it all.
“You can hate all you want to, I didn’t ask for it. It just happened. Now that it happened, I’m supposed to turn my back against it?” he told MTV News about his 11 children. “If I wasn’t taking care of my kids then you would really dog me out, but I’m taking care of my kids, providing for my family. I don’t know what else to say.”
