On yesterday, Thursday, May 9, 2013, Chris Kelly, one half of the 1990’s duo Kris Kross, was laid to rest. Kelly died last week of an apparent drug overdose. It is reported that a number of the So So Def family members attended the funeral services, including members from the 90’s girl group, Xscapte, as well as Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat and Kelly’s rhyme partner, Christ “Daddy Mac” Smith, who was also Kelly’s best friend since childhood.

Smith reportedly rendered a tear-filled eulogy for his longtime friend, who passed away on May 1st. The preliminary findings indicate that he Kelly had consumed a combination of heroin and cocaine the day he died; however the official toxicology reports have not been released by the medical examiner’s office.

As an honorary gesture, Da Brat and Jermaine Dupri wore their pants backwards to the funeral service, a fashion statement made famous by Kris Kross in the early 90’s.

During the eulogy, Chris Smith said, “Mac Daddy” was a “true friend.” “I would say Kris Kross forever, but without Chris, it ain’t never gonna be the same,” Smith a/k/a “Daddy Mac” said at the service. “But I hope our legacy for Hip Hop is never forgotten.”
